Rhetoric And Realities: Analysing Corporate Social Responsibility in Europe (RARE)

The aim of the RARE project (2004-2007) was to analyse the effects of Corporate Social Responsibility in the EU. The only participant from countries that joined the EU in 2004 was Hungary, represented by the Department of Environmental Economics of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics. The three-year project was coordinated by Oeko-Institute, Germany. Primary research was conducted in three sectors crucially important from the aspect of CSR: the banking sector, fisheries and fish processing industries and the oil sector. Our competence was to analyse the specialties of CSR among small- and medium sized companies, as well as the effects of EU enlargement on CSR in new member states, focusing on the oil sector. The most important findings are available on the project homepage, while in detail in the book, published by Edward Elgar: Corporate Social Responsibility in Europe – Rhetoric and Realities.
