The Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME), established in 1782, is the most prominent technical university in Hungary, with economics being the other major discipline of BME. The Department of Environmental Economics was established in 1989, and since then has made great effort to meet the aim to make students familiar with environmental economic aspects of technical activities. The major research fields of the Department are environmental and regional economics, environmental evaluation, environmental management and policy, environmentally sound material and energy management, cost-effective studying of energy and climate policy, waste management and – recycling, environmental management schemes and international environmental cooperation, including EU harmonization.

Competence Centre for Sustainable Resource Management

The Competence Centre for Sustainable Resource Management was established by the Department of Environmental Economics and the Department of Economics at BME in 2012.  The mission of the Competence Centre is to “contribute to sustainability and a resource-efficient, green economy”. Its areas of operation include sustainability-related research, consultancy and development of educational programmes. Our activity is designed to enable knowledge transfer and cooperation between stakeholders and the practical application of research results.
